Are You
Outspending Your
Income?

EAP Hotline Documents
What many people blame on a lack of income may actually be a result of chronic overspending.  Most people who are habitual
over-spenders fail to realize that they are “buying” themselves into debt and that their excuse of “not making enough” really is
not the issue.  The reality is that regardless of the size of your income, not having the ability to control your spending becomes
one of the real issues.  While many people in this day and age have been hit by a troubled economy, others have failed to take
the needed measures to cut their budget and live within their means.

If you are not certain where you fall, listed below are some questions to ask yourself to determine if you have a problem with
overspending.

          1.      Are you using your credit card or payday loan centers to stay ahead of bills?
          2.      Are you afraid to balance your checkbook or set up a budget for fear of what it will tell you about
                   your spending?
          3.       Do you leave the store with more than you actually went shopping for?
          4.       Do you hide purchases from family and friends knowing they will disapprove?
          5.       Do you buy things on deferred payments than not have the money to pay for them later?
          6.       Do you often receive bills for things you forgot you purchased?
          7.       Do your friends or family comment on you spending?
          8.       How often do you go shopping to relieve stress”
          9.       Do you “impulse” shop and buy things you really do not need?
          10.      Are you at the credit limit on one or more credit cards?

Answering yes to four or more of these questions means you are struggling with your personal finances.  Taking simple steps
like setting up a budget can go a long way toward improving your overall credit situation.  A structured credit program could
very well help you to get you life back in order:
