The use of cell phones has allowed us to have instant communication with nearly anyone at anytime. While the use of cell phones has proven to be invaluable to many, others are becoming annoyed and feel like cell phones are intruding into their private lives. If you are a regular cell phone user here are some basic rules of etiquette to follow when using your phone.
Cell phones should not be used at work for personal calls and texting. This is your employer's time, and it should be respected.
Cell phones should be turned off when you are at public venues. Respect the privacy of others at such events by not interrupting them with your cell phone.
Cell phones and driving do not mix. This is becoming a major cause of accidents on the nation's highways.
Cell phone conversations are inappropriate in checkout lines or similar business situations.
Cell phone use in general should not be within ten feet of other people and should always be at a conversational level.
Cell phone users should respect the people they are with. Taking a call and leaving the person you are with hanging is impolite and disruptive.
Cell phone users need to use common sense. Turn off your phone if in doubt. Phones do not belong on in church, in class, during presentations, in libraries, or anyplace where quiet is an expectation.
While we all love our cell phones, we are quickly becoming a society of rude cell phone users. Some companies, and individuals, have taken the matter into their own hands to limit cell phone use by implementing the use of cell phone jammers. While these are mostly illegal, some individuals and businesses feel that the abuses are getting so out of hand that they have no alternative. If you are a cell phone user, be aware of these basic etiquette guidelines, and try to be considerate of other people when using your phone.
